IPAA NSW Practitioners' Network - Special Interest Groups and Regional Networks
IPAA
NSW has set up public sector Special Interest Groups (SIGs)and Regional
Networks under the Practitioners' Network banner to provide members who
have common interests with a forum to share information and discuss
issues, trends and new approaches to specific areas of public
administration.
How to join the Practitioners' Network
You
must be a member of IPAA NSW to participate in the Practitioners'
Network on a regular basis. Members can register to attend any
Practitioners' Network event.
How Practitioners' Network groups work
Practitioners'
Network groups are driven by members. Each group has an honorary
Convenor and committee to ensure a successful operation, which depends
on SIG members being actively involved. Activities may include:
- holding member events
- informally sharing information, knowledge and experience
- documenting new ideas
- writing articles
- researching topics and distributing findings.
The Groups
The groups currently in operation are:
Special Interest Groups
IPAA NSW Regional Networks
Each group has:
- a convenor to act as a contact point with the IPAA NSW office and to coordinate the group's program
- an
organising committee of 4 or more members to assist the convenor. Any
IPAA NSW member is eligible to be a member of these committees. Please
contact IPAA NSW to join a committee
- agreed aims and an outline of how the group will operate
- small scale events with between 10 and 40 people
- a
programmed schedule of upcoming events (up to 4 per year for each
group). This information is posted on the website and made available to
members.
Practitioners' Network Events
- have a practical focus
- concentrate on specific topics/policies in management
- include speakers who are experienced and knowledgeable in their area of practice and good communicators
- audiences to interact with speakers
- attract small but enthusiastic audiences
- provide excellent opportunities for information sharing, networking and frank discussion.
Winding up a Practitioners' Network group
Each
group's viability will be continuously monitored, and a proposal to
wind a group up will be made if attendances dwindle and members and
committee consider it appropriate.
