IPAA NSW Public Sector Events
From 2008 IPAA NSW instituted a new event
framework. Events are categorised as Member events or Special events. Member
events include Member Forums and Special Interest Group events, and
are normally provided free to members. Occasionally a forum will attract
a small fee for members because of higher than normal costs. Public sector special
events include events such as Conferences, Seminars, and Master classes
which attract increased costs or are aimed at specialist audiences,
or both. IPAA NSW members will always receive a discounted rate on all
our events.

Member Forums
IPAA NSW holds public sector forums with local, national and international speakers
on topical subjects relating to public policy and administration. Forums
are convened and publicised as issues arise. They are open to all and
are free or discounted to IPAA NSW members. Members are offered priority
booking to many forums. The forum program this year features a variety
of stimulating topics, speakers and formats to encourage participation.

IPAA NSW Special interest group events
IPAA NSW has a number of special
interest groups in our Practitioners’ Network,
and each group runs regular events. Members may nominate a guest to
accompany them to a SIG event.
SIG events:
- are organised by members for members
- have a practical focus
- concentrate on specific topics/policies in management
- include speakers who are experienced and knowledgeable in their
area of practice and are good communicators
- attract small but enthusiastic audiences who interact with the
speakers
- provide excellent opportunities for information sharing, networking
and frank discussion.
- For more on upcoming SIG events, see the online
event calendar.
Public Sector Special events
Conferences
IPAA NSW hosts a NSW
State Conference from time to time, and shares in the hosting
of the IPAA National Conference with other IPAA divisions on a rotational
basis. In June 2008 we hosted the National Conference, The
future of public service: striking the right balance.
The Institute also assists with the hosting of third-party
conferences.
Seminars and Master classes
IPAA NSW Seminars and Master classes are designed to be relevant
to the current concerns of the sector. They are designed to be pragmatic,
targeted, participative and current bringing together leading case
studies delivered by experienced practitioners to examine and share
information on particular issues and to suggest options for action.

BIG IDEAS
IPAA NSW presents the BIG IDEAS forum series
The IPAA NSW BIG IDEAS series aims to explore the big issues of today
- issues that affect everyone.
BIG IDEAS will use the TED.com website
to stimulate discussion about issues currently facing the public sector.
IPAA NSW will conduct three BIG IDEAS events in 2009.
BIG IDEAS will be launched in May 2009 with a facilitated discussion
focused on ‘Education’. Education has roots in every facet
of life, so what better topic to begin with?
TED
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. TED is a global
community of interested people, hoping to make a change; something
to which individuals in the public sector can relate.
The TED conference, held annually, brings together the world's most
fascinating thinkers and doers, who are
challenged to give the talk of their
lives (in 18 minutes). The talks are shared online at TED.com, where
the motto is "ideas worth spreading".
TED.com gives worldwide access to the talks, ideas and performances
of some of the most inspiring voices of our time, such as Richard Branson,
Bill Clinton, Al Gore, J.J Abrams (creator and producer of hit TV shows
Lost and Alias), Bono (U2 lead singer and social activist).
TED.com advocates the free and open sharing of ideas, and the IPAA
NSW BIG IDEAS series aims to facilitate just that.
TheBIG IDEAS series is not the place for people who want to push
an agenda or focus on one specific facet of the discussion. The goal
is to discuss topics in a broad sense, and to draw out innovative and
practical ideas for enhancing the future of our state and the nation.
BIG IDEAS forums will be advertised to
members and others prior to each event, and you will be able to book
and pay online.
