Grants are used as a mechanism to fund key strategic and tactical community services initiatives; yet grants management does not yet have an established training program.
There are high reputational risks to the government associated with the award and management of grants; and this course is your opportunity to deepen your understanding of grants management with value for money and probity at the fore.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
You will leave this course with the necessary knowledge and understanding on how to both initiate and manage grants with a strong focus on value for money and probity.
You will explore a range of case studies and real life examples of successful and unsuccessful examples of grants from the NSW public sector, the Commonwealth, and interstate.
In this one day course, you will work through templates and best practice guidelines, and engage in team based discussion in applying a grants management framework.
You will finish this course with a deeper understanding of the following:
- what are grants programs and how do they come to exist?
- what types of purposes do they serve and how do they differ from traditional contracts?
- who are the key stakeholders in grants programs and what are their roles and responsibilities?
- for grant recipients, what types of risks arise from grants programs and how can these be managed?
- how can grants programs be managed to achieve value for money?
- what probity issues can arise from grants and how can these be identified and managed?
- how can interests of grant funding bodies and grant recipients be aligned and maintained throughout the lifecycle of a grant program?
Development and Management of Grants is for people at the Adept to Advanced levels and you will develop the following capabilities:
