Our 19th On the Couch series features Glenn King FIPAA, Secretary for Customer Service. He was formerly Deputy Secretary, Premier’s Implementation Unit (PIU) at Department of Premier and Cabinet.

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Stewards of the Sector is a series of informal interviews with key leaders of the public sector. Hosted by former ABC journalist, Monica Attard, these interviews explore the person behind the role, their influences and priorities, and their insights into the future of the public sector.

Our special guest for this event is Glenn King FIPAA.  As Secretary for Customer Service, Mr King’s work includes ensuring customer service reforms continue to be rolled out into areas such as health, planning and education. Also involved with the PIU & the Behavioural Insights program, Glenn works closely with agency implementation teams to support delivery of the Premier's 12 Priorities across the whole of the sector at a state and local government level.

Previous On the Couch interviewees have included Emma Hogan (Public Service Commissioner), Damon Rees (Chief Executive Officer, Service NSW), Sonja Stewart (Deputy Secretary, Department of Premier and Cabinet), Tim Reardon (Secretary of Transport for NSW), Jeannine Biviano (Deputy Secretary, Government and Corporate Services of Department of Finance, Services and Innovation), Mark Scott (Secretary NSW Department of Education) and Elizabeth Koff (Secretary of NSW Health).

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

Mr King has a distinguished career in customer service and change including being one of the key architects in Service NSW and its roll-out of Service Centres across the state.  This work has been recognised for its transformative impacts on service users and providers.  Prior to moving to the public sector, Glenn had a successful career in the finance, banking and not-for-profit sectors domestically and internationally. Glenn is passionate about championing the interests and perspective of customers in policy, service design, funding, delivery and measurement across the NSW public sector.

This is an opportunity to hear first-hand about Glenn's leadership style and aspirations in an informal interview conducted by an award-winning journalist. The interview concludes with a brief Q&A session with questions from the audience.

SPEAKER

Glenn King FIPAA

Secretary
Customer Service

As the first Secretary for Customer Service, Glenn works closely with agency implementation teams to support delivery of the Premier's 12 priorities across the whole of the sector at a state and local government level.  In this new role he will champion the interests and perspective of customers in policy, service design, funding, delivery and measurement across the public sector, building on the Government's already impressive record of customer service improvements.

FACILITATOR

Monica Attard

Monica spent 28 years at the ABC working across radio and television. She was the ABC’s Russia correspondent at possibly the best time in modern history to be a Russian correspondent. She reported on the coup against Mikhail Gorbachev, the collapse of Soviet communism, the rise of Boris Yeltsin and his peculiar brand of capitalism and democracy, the first Chechen war and she covered civil wars across the old Soviet Union. Four years of covering the revolution left her with just enough energy to pump out a book about the events. Monica is now working with CNN International and The Hoopla, a women’s website, based in Sydney.
