Resilience for investigators and complaint handlers

The resilience workshop will explore how our brain responds to stress. How to manage crisis situations and long-term resilience strategies for both work and life. We will examine the role of perfectionism, how to manage change and using mindfulness to safely navigate through a working life with stressed clients all from a trauma informed perspective.

Who should attend

This workshop is aimed at investigators, complaint handlers and others who work in challenging fields that encompass gathering and analysing a high volume of materials. Public, community, and private sector participants are all welcome.

Duration – half-day morning workshop

This workshop requires a time commitment of 3.5 hours including 15-minute tea break. This workshop is scheduled from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Learning outcomes

This workshop is an introduction to Trauma Informed perspectives aimed at understanding and responding to stressed clients, guarding wellbeing, and increasing resilience for staff. Participants will:

  • explore how people respond to stress
  • learn practical skills for responding to stress
  • learn proactive wellbeing strategies.

Workshop outline

Drawing on her experience as a counsellor and trainer for professionals in the legal and investigative spheres, Robyn will outline a Trauma Informed approach to keep difficult conversations safe for all involved. Robyn will provide some practical techniques as well as share proactive wellbeing strategies to ensure that those who undertake complex and challenging investigation and major reviews can do so safely in the long term.

About the workshop presenter

Robyn Bradey (B.Soc.Stud. SYD.) is a Mental Health Accredited Social Worker with 43 years’ experience, 32 of those in private practice.  She has been a youth worker, a hospital social worker, and an administrator. She offers professional supervision to a wide range of health, welfare and legal workers.  She has been a counsellor, specialising in loss, grief, trauma, work related stress and injury.  Since 2008, she has specialised in training consulting and supporting the legal profession in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, She is currently working as a consultant and trainer for the Federal Court of Australia, Federal Circuit and FL Court, the UK Bar and Inns of Court, NZ Te Kura Kaiwhakawa Institute of Judicial Studies, NZ Privacy Commission,  NZ Ombudsman, NZ Law Society,  Legal Aid, NSW Community Legal Services, The Bar Association of NSW, the Law Society of NSW, the NSW and Commonwealth DPP, NSW and Commonwealth Ombudsman, Knowmore, Australian Red Cross,  and a large number of other agencies and organisations.
