What can we learn about cross-jurisdictional collaboration from the 2021 Covid border closures?

The Covid border closures highlighted the vulnerabilities of Federation. They also showed the need for policy decisions to be considered in tandem with how that policy is implemented and its’ impacts upon our citizens daily lives.

James McTavish, NSW Cross-Border Commissioner has thought deeply about the challenges of this period and the lessons that NSW public sector should take forward.

At this Executive Director Breakfast James will discuss details of impacts of the border closures during the peak of the pandemic in 2021. He will use this to explore the vulnerably of Federation and the importance of cross-border collaboration. He will also share the learnings from this period and ideas that will enable you to deepen cross-sector and cross-jurisdictional collaboration.

This event is also an exclusive opportunity to build the professional networks that have proved essential during our state’s response to the challenges of recent years.

James has been the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner since mid-2014 and is based in Wagga Wagga. Prior to this role he held appointments in the NSW SES and the Australian Regular Army which saw him living and working across borders in all Australian states.

James has been the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner since mid-2014 and is based in Wagga Wagga. Prior to this role he held appointments in the NSW SES and the Australian Regular Army which saw him living and working across borders and in all Australian states.

He is an enthusiastic but frequently unsuccessful fisherman, and enjoys spending time outdoors with his family gardening, camping or working on their small farm at Jugiong. James is looking forward to being able to travel more in the next 12 months as things return to greater normality.
