Overview

 

Throughout this principles-­based course, participants will tackle scenario-­based challenges and be encouraged to creatively apply the skills learned to relevant and topical issues. Those who successfully complete this course will have the confidence and skill to successfully take on leadership positions. The BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management program has been created by leadership and management experts and is developed to challenge and reward through the provision of insightful and competency-­linked course materials, tutorage and activities. This course offers NSW Government emerging leaders a career advantage through demonstrable skills required. Participants who complete the course will obtain a Nationally Recognised qualification from accessUTS Pty Limited, the wholly owned entity of the University of Technology, Sydney.


Credit Point Exemption for UTS Business School


Successful completion of the Diploma of Leadership and Management with accessUTS will earn students 24 credit points (4 unspecified electives) towards the UTS Bachelor of Business. Students will need apply for admission to UTS Business School through UAC and must meet the UTS admission requirements to be eligible for exemption.


Course Delivery


The BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management program is delivered through a face-to-face intensive course. Modules are run over an intensive 6-day, full-time course.

MODULE 1 - Understanding yourself and others: emotional intelligence, behavioural styles and preferences

MODULE 2 - Building the team: hiring, coaching and performance managing staff

MODULE 3 - Leading financial and operational sustainability: financial and risk acumen for leaders

MODULE 4 - Influencing and negotiation: getting the best from your team, peers and manager

MODULE 5 - Driving operational change and improvement: leading projects and continuous improvement

The course is facilitated by accessUTS-accredited and IPAA-approved facilitators. All teaching faculty have held management roles and have experience in delivering training to NSW Government agencies, Federal Government agencies and Local Government agencies.

Course Structure

 

The BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management is to be structured in 5 intensive modules. The core and elective units of competency have been clustered within each relevant module.

MODULE 1 - Understanding yourself and others: emotional intelligence, behavioural styles and preferences:

BSBWOR501 Manage personal work priorities and professional development

BSBLDR502 Lead and manage effective workplace relationships

Examine your own assumptions of self as a manager, as well as the impact you have on others. It gives you the opportunity to develop skills and strategies in personal work planning and organisation, work-life balance and the effective use of technology as a time management tool.

MODULE 2 - Building the team: hiring, coaching and performance managing staff:

BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness

BSBMGT502 Manage people performance

Develops the mindset of a successful people manager and leader of team members within your organisation - plan team performance, develop and facilitate team cohesion, facilitate team work and manage individuals.

MODULE 3 - Leading financial and operational sustainability: financial and risk acumen for

leaders:

BSBFIM501 Manage budgets and financial plans

BSBRSK501 Manage risk

Plan and implement financial management approaches, support team members, monitor and control finances. Review and evaluate effectiveness of financial management processes in line with the financial objectives of the work team and the organisation. Manage and evaluate risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for your business unit.

ODULE 4 - Influencing and negotiation: getting the best from your team, peers and manager:

BSBLDR503 Communicate with influence

BSBADM502 Manage meetings

Influence and negotiate persuasively, lead and participate in meetings and make presentations to your manager, customers, clients and peers. Chair effective meetings by managing the preparation and documenting agreed outcomes.

MODULE 5 - Driving operational change and improvement: leading projects and continuous improvement

BSBPMG522 Undertake project work

BSBMGT516 Facilitate continuous improvement

BSBMGT517 Manage operational planning

Develop the fundamental skills and knowledge of project management - identify the key actions that must be taken at each project stage - meet timelines effectively – deliver on quality standards and budgetary limits set for any project. Drive continuous improvement process and implement an operational plan.

Pre-reading

Because of the intensive nature of the program, applicants will be provided with mandatory pre-reading. It is essential that they have completed this reading material before the commencement of the program. Reading material will be provided 3-4 weeks prior to the program.

Course Duration

From course pre-reading to final assignment submission, the BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management would take up to 12 months but many students complete with 6 months.

This training is delivered through a mixture of presentation, group work, case studies and individual research in a partnering arrangement with accessUTS (RTO ID No 90811).

 
     


Learning Approach


This course maximises the opportunities for self-directed learning and action research to develop participants knowledge, skills and attributes while achieving the learning outcomes of the course.

The course encompasses a mixture of six days of face-to-face training, work-based activities, assessments and a requirement to demonstrate previous experience and knowledge through the Recognition process to obtain a full diploma qualification.

Cancellation policy - Events

  • Cancellation received more than 10 business days prior to the event – no penalty will be incurred
  • Cancellation received within 6-10 business days of the event – 50% of the fee is payable
  • Cancellation received less than 6 business days prior to the event – 100% of the fee is payable
  • No show – 100% of the fee is payable
  • Registrations received less than 6 business days prior to the event are non-refundable.

Transfer policy - Events
  • All requests for transfers must be in writing
  • Substitute nominees may attend in your place where deemed appropriate; however, if a member wishes to substitute a non-member in their place the full fee will be payable.
Transfer policy - Scheduled Courses
  • All requests for transfers must be in writing
  • Your course registration can be transferred to another course without penalty if requested more than 10 business days prior to the course start date. Otherwise, the above cancellation policy applies. Transfers can only be requested when the course fee has been paid in full.
  • Transferring your registration to another person can be done at any time without penalty if nominee details are provided within a minimum of 2 business days prior to the course start date. Transferring from a member to a non-member will result in a fee increase in line with the non-member course fee.
Transfer policy - Self-paced Courses 
  • Transfers to another course are not allowed for self-paced courses.
We may in our discretion waive cancellation charges in exceptional circumstances, but we will not waive cancellation charges on account of work commitments.

Program Changes

IPAA NSW reserves the right to change programs/speakers/venue, or to cancel programs if the enrolment criteria are not met or when conditions beyond our control prevail. All registrants will be notified in the event of cancellation and their registration fee will be refunded.
