This informal interview gives you a chance to learn more about one of the senior leaders in our sector.
Our 29th On the Couch interviewee is Michael Tidball. Prior to his appointment to the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, Michael was the longest-serving CEO of the Law Society and led the organisation for 14 years until 2020, when he was appointed CEO of the Law Council of Australia.

Michael has worked in both government and business sectors, working in various fields such as child protection, corrections, youth justice and across the legal sector, in strategic management and senior advisory roles.


Michael Tidball - Full bio

In February 2022, Michael Tidball was appointed Secretary of NSW Department of Communities and Justice and the Stronger Communities Cluster. Michael has worked in both government and business sectors, working in various fields such as child protection, corrections, youth justice and across the legal sector, in strategic management and senior advisory roles. He has also served as Special Advisor to the Public Accounts Committee of the New South Wales Parliament.

Michael has a strong background in professional services and legal sector administration. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Law Council of Australia in August 2020 following on from his previous appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Law Society of New South Wales from 2006 to July 2020. From 2015 to January 2022, he also concurrently served as Secretary General of LAWASIA.

He was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Law Society of New South Wales in 2004 and led many of its initiatives to position it as one of the of the largest, most resilient, and successful voluntary direct membership regulating Law Societies internationally.

Michael has a strong and active interest in classical music and served as Chair of the Board of The Song Company, Australia’s leading and internationally highly acclaimed classical vocal ensemble. He has completed post graduate studies at the Saïd Business School at The University of Oxford, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Natalie is a Director and co-founder of Bendelta. She is a practice area expert in Strategy and Organisational Alignment, working with the Boards and senior executive teams of many of Australia’s leading organisations to create transformational results.

Natalie is a Director and co-founder of Bendelta. She is a practice area expert in Strategy and Organisational Alignment, working with the Boards and senior executive teams of many of Australia’s leading organisations to create transformational results. Natalie is also a Certified Master Coach with the Behavioural Coaching Institute.

Based out of Bendelta’s Sydney office, Natalie works with clients across a broad range of sectors including media, professional services, government agencies and major listed corporates. She assists clients with both business review and strategy formulation, as well as with the practicalities of making change work, including the coaching of senior executives to achieve optimal effectiveness.

Previous to Bendelta, Natalie spent five years working in management consultancy, based out of New Zealand and Australia. She holds degrees in Management and Psychology, both from the University of Auckland.
