Are you new to policy development in the public sector?

Are you committed to a public sector career and keen to understand the integral role policy plays in public service?

During this 2 x Half Day course, you will develop the knowledge and skills required for undertaking the research and analysis essential for developing and supporting policy initiatives.

This includes building your knowledge of the role of research, analysis of problems, formulation of outcomes, policy history, whole-of-government collaboration and engagement and empowerment for people.

This course is ideal for anyone newly stepping into a policy development role or who wants to understand how policy underpins the work we all do.



WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will learn the key concepts and the use of policy vocabulary to help build confidence in policy communication and analysis.

You will also learn how to communicate policy research, findings and ideas inside and outside the public sector.

You will finish the course knowing you can:

  • describe the stages of policy development and where your work fits in.
  • structure policy problems clearly.
  • appropriately apply different types of policy instruments.
  • undertake relevant policy research.
  • engage stakeholders using the right consultation method.
  • recognise the importance of embedding evaluation and monitoring early in the process.
