Michael Coutts-Trotter is one of NSW’s most experienced public sector leaders. As the Secretary of NSW Treasury, he leads the work of the public sector in developing economic policy and reform and delivering on the NSW government's commitments and priorities.

He was first appointed to head a NSW Government department in 2004 and has since led seven agencies, including the Departments of Premier and Cabinet, Family and Community Services, Education and Finance and Services. He was appointed Secretary of NSW Treasury in May 2023.

Before joining the public service, Michael was chief of staff to a NSW Treasurer for seven years. Michael is a fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia.
