You will explore how to build appropriate rapport with applicants, making judgments and evaluations, undertaking interviews and the role of the selection panel in speaking to referees, making decisions, and providing feedback.

In this practical one day workshop, you will use role plays, case studies, group discussions, and reflection journals to give you the opportunity to apply your learnings, seek feedback, and reflect on your strengths and areas for improvement.

You will finish this course knowing you can:

  • understand APS guidelines for selection processes and recruitment.
  • anticipate, plan for, and manage changes to your workforce structure.
  • identify the workforce capabilities required to deliver business outcomes.
  • recognise relevant legislation and policy associated with recruitment.
  • be aware of unconscious bias and influences on your decision making.
  • apply an effective approach to interviewing and evaluating candidates.
  • develop behavioural based interview questions which address selection criteria.
  • undertake structured interviews, both face to face and virtually.
  • conduct pre-employment checks.
  • provide feedback to candidates.
  • refine recruitment strategies in response to change.
