WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will leave this course with a deeper understanding of different approaches to strategic thinking and the role it plays in the development of outcomes, objectives and actions with the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and operating environments.

In this practical one day workshop, you will participate in a range of small group discussions and work through case studies based on real life public sector examples and applying frameworks and models introduced throughout the day.

You will explore your own experiences and those of your fellow learners, identify strengths and areas for improvement and share your knowledge, skills, ideas and concerns.

You will finish this course knowing you can:

  • defining strategy and strategic thinking.
  • using models and a structured approach for strategic thinking and how different ways of thinking affect our approach to strategy.
  • applying a strategic thinking framework in planning for change.
  • undertaking a thorough stakeholder analysis and stakeholder mapping.
  • understanding and managing barriers to strategic thinking.
  • identifying innovative strategies and solutions and evaluate different strategy options.
  • developing strategy from a realistic assessment of the political, economic and social environment.
  • developing strategy that is seen as relevant and meaningful to staff and broader stakeholders.
  • considering resourcing opportunities and constraints when developing strategy.
