Janet Schorer PSM FIPAA is NSW’s SafeWork Commissioner, taking up the role in July 2025 and bringing a wealth of experience from more than 20 years in executive leadership roles in the public sector. Janet’s appointment marked the establishment of SafeWork NSW as the independent regulator of Work Health and Safety in NSW.
Janet has a track record as a regulator and public sector leader, spanning education and community transformation programs. She began her career as a registered nurse and, prior to becoming SafeWork Commissioner, held senior roles at TAFE NSW, the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and the Department of Family and Community Services, and was the NSW Children’s Guardian.
Janet was awarded the Public Service Medal for outstanding public services particularly through the protection of children. She is a National Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) and an IPAA NSW Vice President.
