Young Professional Network: 2024 Policy Hack

Is this event for you?

Policy hacks are a unique way of creating inter-agency solutions to important public policy challenges.

When you join the policy hack, you'll be placed in a team of up to 5 young professionals working together over several weeks to develop a policy solution for a major government priority.

When you finish, you’ll have the opportunity to have your work assessed by a panel of senior leaders.

2024 Policy Hack topics

The 2 policy hack questions are:

  1. How can people of all ages (particularly younger people) participate in events and festivals within NSW?

  2. If we want to integrate generative AI into the teaching and learning that happens at TAFE NSW what are the guidelines and best practices we should be thinking about?

The agencies sponsoring this year’s policy hack are The Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner and TAFE NSW.

What will you gain?
If you’re an ambitious young professional ready to take your career to the next level, this event is for you.  The IPA NSW Policy Hack is a program designed to support the innovative minds of the young professionals working within the NSW Government. It gives you the opportunity to  develop your policy planning and writing skills but also provides you with the opportunity to build robust networks and work collaboratively on an important policy problem.

Your engagement as a contributor in the 2024 Policy Hack will:

  • Empower co-constructing policy initiatives relevant to current challenges in NSW
  • Provide opportunities to collaborate with a diverse group of young professionals across the business units in NSW public sector
  • Expand your skills in policy development, teamwork and collaboration
  • Engage with a senior mentor as part of a team to guide your proposal

What to expect

The Policy Hack will kick off with the Opening Ceremony on Monday 3 June, where participants will hear from the business units working on each of the two policy challenges to introduce and contextualise the issues underpinning each challenge. Each participating team, comprising of 4 -5 young professionals, will get 3 weeks to complete writing their policy response to their allocated question. Policy submissions are due 12pm Tuesday, 25 June.

Your solution will be reviewed by the Policy Hack working committee before being shared with the judges on the panel. The top 3 teams will present their ideas at the Closing Ceremony on Tuesday 16 July, during which the winning team will be announced.
