Welcome to the Working in Government frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Below are a list of questions and their responses we have received from participants of the Working in Government program. The responses are to be used as a guide to help you as you registered and complete the program yourself.

If there is anything missing, please contact us to find out more.

How do I navigate the Yarno platform?

When you receive your daily email from Yarno to take you to the Yarno Platform if you need some help to navigate the platform, just click on the small ? menu in the top right hand corner once you log in to TAKE TOUR.

How can I review the questions I just answered for a day?

Once you have completed your day's worth of questions you have the opportunity to go back and see the questions, your answers and the explainers to learn more. Just select the View Previous Questions option on your Sweet Moves! dashboard.

I got an answer wrong, but I didn't know the topic, is that fair?

The daily quiz is a great way to introduce new concepts. This means you might be answering a question based on something you haven't learnt before. That is OK. This program is meant to be a learning tool, not an exam.

It is OK to get questions wrong, it is a great way to learn new things. After you answer a question, you will get an opportunity to read a short explanation that will provide you with some additional information. It is there to help you understand what may be a new concept. You will then also get the chance to re-answer that same question in a couple of days to possibly give a new response. The more correct answers you give, the better your score will be but also the more you will learn.

The speech in in the video question is too fast, how do I slow it down?

Unfortunately you can't control the speed of the video but what you can do is turn on Closed Captions. That way if you can't quite hear what is being said clearly, you can read what has been said to help with your comprehension. You may actually prefer to read than to listen so the option is there for all of the videos. Just select the small CC icon in the bottom right hand corner of the video player.

How is the leaderboard calculated?

The leaderboard shows the rankings of Portfolios/Clusters participating in the Campaign. You earn points for your assigned Portfolio to move up and down the leaderboard, up through correct answers and regular participation, down if people assigned to your Portfolio don't participate or purposefully get all their questions wrong. The leaderboard is part of the gamification of learning and some people will love watching the leaderboard change and other people will not look at it once. It is just one way to keep people interested in their own learning.

You will also be able to track your own progress through badges and streaks. So if you answer 5 questions correct in a row, you can earn a 5 question streak badge, and there is even a badge for 30 questions in a row!

Your badges and leaderboard are found on your dashboard and will update daily as you progress.

What is the highest possible score you can get on the WiG program?

The highest possible score for the Working in Government program is 4350.

How is my score calculated?

A learner's score is based on two key factors: correct answers and regular participation.

Correct answers:

If the learner answers the question correctly on the first try, then they receive maximum points for that question. That same question may be repeated to the learner in a few days, but will reward fewer points to them if they get it right on the second try.
However the more tries the learner has, the fewer points are made available to them for a correct answer, so if you get it wrong the first them and then correct the second, you will receive points but not as many.

Regular participation:

Whilst not as significant as answering correctly, learners are rewarded for answering promptly and regularly. This is designed to encourage and incentivise regular participation.

Why do I get asked the same question more than once even if I got it correct?

This is called spaced repetition (learning science) and what it means is that you remember more if you hear, see or read things more than once. To help make key concepts stick the campaign is programmed to repeat questions every few days after you first answered them even if you go them right or wrong. If you got it right the first time, you get a chance to get it right again and increase your score (but it also just makes sure you embed the thing you are trying to learn).

Not every correct answer will repeat but some will, make sure you read your questions and answers before you select your response. There will always be a very wrong answer and some that sound like they may be correct but there will be something key that you need to know or remember about the most correct response.

I'm not receiving my daily emails.

If you aren’t receiving notifications from the start of the program date, you may need to log a ticket with your IT department to “Whitelist” [email protected].
